giving back to bali
At e. lane traders, we encourage responsible, ethical and sustainable practices. It’s particularly important to us to give back to the local communities wherever our business takes us.
The Bali Street Mums Project works with impoverished mothers and children who are begging on the streets of Bali. This non-profit organisation has been set up to get mums and their children off the streets by providing better living conditions, training mothers with new skills – such as making jewellery, dolls and bags – and sponsoring their children through school. Children are often the first victims of poverty in Indonesia. They are taken to the streets to beg, sold for cheap labour and often abused. They don’t get to go to school or have dreams of their own. Donations to the project gives children in need a chance to go to school – a chance not only to change their own lives, but the lives of their families too.
There are now 20 mothers and 50 children involved in the project who have enough income without having to turn back to the streets to beg. However, there is still a long way to go with an ongoing struggle to keep mums off the street due to unexpected medical emergencies, rising school fees and ongoing nutritional needs.
e. lane traders is proud to support The Bali Street Mums Project – our Bali-based charity partner. This means a percentage of all sales will be donated directly to the cause.
